The Ile d’Oléron Museum

The island’s history, ethnography and traditions: the Ile d’Oléron Museum, located in Saint-Pierre d’Oléron, is an excellent introduction to the island. Its permanent collection presents the evolution of man on the island starting in the Neolithic period (jewelry made from shells) to today. You can learn about salt production, viticulture, resin extraction, fishing, traditional costumes, the habitat… Interviews with islanders in the background, interactive technology, and films give the place a dynamic energy.
